This 8-week course of weekly 3-hour sessions in North London is based on the late Alternative Comedy legend, Tony Allen’s workshop and book “Attitude – wanna make something of it?“.
It focuses on discovering and exploring “who you are on stage” through games and exercises designed to bring out different characteristics of your performance personalities.
‘Attitude’ is for individuals who want to put themselves firmly in the limelight and express themselves creatively, drawing on their unique personality and sense of humour.
We incorporate key stand up comedy elements outlined in Tony’s book:
The starting point is performance Dynamics – learning to acknowledge the context of the performance, the presence of a live audience and everything happening in this particular moment.
This leads to an exploration of ‘Attitude’ as defined by Tony Allen – ‘the identity crisis suffered when performing on stage that leads you to draw on your palette of minor personalities’.
We cover Structure and Technique, and help you find and apply your own unique Texture.
Your Material emerges through experimentation and exercises in class, and homework exercises. It is shaped by group interactions and tailored feedback.
At the end of the course there will be a showcase performance for family, friends and peers, where participants perform a 5-7-minute stand up routine.
Pat leads this course jointly with Wobbie Wobbit, musical comedian, founder/host of Ramshackle Collective open mic, and long-term collaborator of Tony. She co-taught with Tony on the Attitude workshops from the late 1990s onwards and collaborated with him on many projects.
Fees for this course are £300 payable in advance, although an instalment plan will be considered.
